THOUSAND OAKS, CALIF.— March 17, 2025 | Vitassium, an electrolyte brand created for the chronic illness community, recently announced the results of two studies that demonstrated Vitassium FastChews can provide rapid symptom relief for people with certain chronic conditions.
Background: Electrolytes and Dysautonomia
Dysautonomia, including Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), affects the autonomic nervous system and can cause symptoms such as increased heart rate, low blood pressure, and dizziness. For individuals with POTS, increasing sodium intake is a key strategy to stabilize blood pressure, improve circulation, and maintain daily functionality. However, with no FDA-approved treatments, the estimated 6 million Americans living with POTS need fast and effective ways to manage their symptoms.
Vitassium FastChews are designed to provide an on-the-go, fast-acting sodium solution to help manage these symptoms more efficiently. As chewable tablets, the FastChews technology allows for rapid absorption, making them a convenient and effective option for those who need immediate relief.
FastChews and Rapid Sodium Absorption
A clinical study conducted by SaltStick, Vitassium’s parent brand, in partnership with Western Colorado University (WCU), examined the absorption rate of FastChews. The study found that nearly half of the sodium in FastChews is absorbed within the first 45 seconds of chewing, offering a significantly faster alternative to traditional hydration products.
Most electrolyte products, including sports drinks and powders, must pass through the digestive system, taking 20 minutes or more to reach the bloodstream. However, the human body has specialized cells in the mouth—known as buccal mucosa—that can absorb nutrients directly. Prior research has shown that smaller particles are especially effective at passing through the buccal mucosa, allowing for rapid absorption within minutes. The WCU study tested this research in action, directly measuring how FastChews’ chewable format enhances sodium delivery.

The Vitassium Consumer Experience
Building on these findings, an internal survey of 645 Vitassium consumers conducted in January 2025 provided further evidence of FastChews’ real-world impact. The majority of respondents, 71%, reported that their dysautonomia symptoms improved within 15 minutes or less after taking Vitassium FastChews.
“[Vitassium FastChews] are so convenient and helpful for almost immediate relief when I’m having a flare or sudden bout of dizziness, tachycardia, or palpitations,” an anonymous participant shared in their survey response.
Nearly 70% of surveyed consumers reported at least a 25% reduction in symptoms like lightheadedness, presyncope, and tachycardia after using FastChews.

"Managing POTS symptoms can be unpredictable, and having a fast-acting option like FastChews helps patients like me get the sodium we need when our symptoms flare,” said Lauren Mackey, Associate Brand Manager at Vitassium, who developed dysautonomia after a viral illness in 2017.
